Randy Turner is an "Army of One."  He will build to your specifications or take your ideas and give you some options.  He will work with you to make your specialized wood creation a "show piece" which will last for generations to come.

"I am hired to go into a customer's home and walk into a room and build what I visualize.  There are no blueprints or anything to go by.  This bar was already built in my mind, it's just a matter of taking it from my mind and building it in that room."

He has climbed the stairs of his craft by piecing together projects.  In the construction trade most of his life, he decided it was time to branch out on his own and began his business, Specialized Wood Creations in 1992.

Randy takes on unusual challenges and produces wooden works of fine art.

Randy has always had a passion for woodworking and started out trimming houses in Ohio and then got into more custom work.  He started learning that he could be creative when he went into that mode.

He custom designs and produces almost anything made of wood that can be found in a home such as staircases, mantels, crown and molding, bars, entertainment centers, and kitchens.

This custom bar was built in a log home in Grove City, PA in 2007.

Hickory was used in the entire project.  A granite counter top touched  off this beautifully sculpted bar.

"Hickory is a very hard wood."

"It really eats up a saw blade but it's a beautiful wood when the project is done."

Oak is the wood of choice these days among consumers which made the hickory bar a little different.  In 2007, he completed a massive bar made of hickory that took several months of off-and-on work to complete.  Building the bar was first a matter of creating it in his mind.

Randy finds more consumers are turning to pressed wood, a man-made material versus a natural wood product.  Although cheaper than natural wood, pressed wood has its drawbacks.  "Down the road people who think they can refinish pressed wood will be in for a shock.  It can't be refinished.  You can repaint it, but there's no way of getting a stain finish on it."

When it comes right down to it, Turner finds most of his work labor intensive.  A majority of his jobs are things like fireplace mantels, bookcases around fireplaces -- things that most of the others in the business don't want to take on.
